Course Description
Understanding Fatty Liver, Cirrhosis & Evidence-Based Nutrition Care
The liver is one of the most metabolically active organs in the human body, influencing blood sugar regulation, cholesterol metabolism, fat storage, hormone balance, detoxification and protein synthesis. As metabolic disorders continue to rise globally, conditions such as Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) have become one of the leading causes of chronic liver disease – even in individuals who do not consume alcohol.
This comprehensive course is designed to help nutrition professionals develop a deep understanding of liver physiology, disease progression and evidence-based nutrition interventions. Rather than memorising facts, you’ll learn how to interpret clinical findings, understand the underlying pathophysiology, and design practical nutrition strategies for real patients.
From fatty liver and viral hepatitis to cirrhosis and liver cancer, this course bridges science with clinical practice, enabling you to confidently manage patients while recognising situations that require medical referral.

Why is this course beneficial?
This course is built for nutritionists, dietitians, students and healthcare professionals who want to move beyond theoretical knowledge and develop practical clinical competence.
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
- Interpret liver-related blood reports with confidence.
- Differentiate MASLD, ALD, hepatitis and cirrhosis.
- Identify red flags that require referral.
- Design evidence-based vegetarian and Indian nutrition plans.
- Counsel patients using simple, science-backed language.
- Apply current international guidelines to everyday practice.
Rather than giving generic diet charts, you’ll learn how to think like a clinician and individualise nutrition care.
Why Liver Health is Central to Metabolic Health
The liver is often called the metabolic headquarters of the body because nearly every major metabolic process passes through it.
When liver function begins to decline, it doesn’t just affect one organ—it influences the entire metabolic system.
Poor liver health is closely linked with:
- Insulin resistance
- Type 2 diabetes
- Obesity and visceral fat accumulation
- Dyslipidaemia (high triglycerides & abnormal cholesterol)
- PCOS
- Chronic low-grade inflammation
- Cardiovascular disease
The encouraging news is that improving metabolic health also improves liver health. Evidence shows that sustainable weight management, better dietary quality, regular physical activity and improved muscle mass can significantly reduce liver fat and slow disease progression.
In many patients, these lifestyle changes don’t just improve laboratory values—they improve energy levels, body composition, inflammation, long-term cardiovascular risk and overall quality of life.
This course teaches you how to achieve exactly that through evidence-based nutrition.
