What Are PCOS Nutrition Supplements?
PCOS nutrition supplements are vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that people take alongside food and lifestyle changes when managing polycystic ovary syndrome. They are an add-on, not a treatment on their own. Whether one is useful depends on the person's lab results, diet and medicines, so a doctor should guide the choice.
An add-on, not a fix
Food, movement, sleep and medical care come first. A supplement sits on top of them.
Evidence varies
Some supplements have more research behind them than others. Some people need none.
Personal, lab-led choices
The right answer depends on your results, your medicines and your doctor's advice.
Institute Nutrition teaches this topic through online courses. This page points you to those courses and does not recommend any supplement, brand or dose. If you have PCOS and are thinking of starting a supplement, speak to your doctor first.

What Research Says About PCOS Nutrition Supplements
A good course teaches you to weigh evidence. Here is one honest example.
Inositol: a common example
A 2024 systematic review, written to inform the 2023 international PCOS guideline, found some metabolic benefits for myo-inositol or D-chiro-inositol, possible ovulation benefits from D-chiro-inositol and no clear effect on other outcomes. Its abstract concludes that the evidence supporting inositol in PCOS is limited and inconclusive.

Led by Monash University, with partners across 71 countries and six continents. It contains 254 recommendations and practice points, based on the best available evidence, clinical expertise and consumer preferences.

- Claims differ in strength, so check the evidence instead of following a trend.
- A supplement that suits one person may be unnecessary for another.
- Your lab results, your medicines and your doctor's advice come first.
Before You Start Any PCOS Nutrition Supplements
Six questions to take to your doctor. They are prompts for a conversation and are not medical advice.
- 1Have I discussed this supplement with my doctor?
- 2Do I know which lab result or symptom it is meant to address?
- 3Have I told my doctor about every medicine and supplement I already take?
- 4Am I pregnant, or trying to conceive? If so, check with my doctor first.
- 5Does the label list every ingredient and the amount per serving?
- 6How will we judge whether it is working, and when will we review it?
