Course Description
Bariatric Nutrition is the specialized dietary care provided before and after weight-loss surgeries such as gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, or gastric banding. It focuses on ensuring adequate protein, vitamins, and minerals while supporting weight loss and preventing complications like nutrient deficiencies, dumping syndrome, or muscle loss.
After surgery, patients follow a staged diet—from liquids to soft foods to solids—while prioritizing small, frequent meals, protein intake (60–80g/day), and lifelong supplementation of nutrients like Vitamin B12, D, iron, calcium, and folate.
The goal of bariatric nutrition is to ensure safe weight loss, maintain energy, and prevent malnutrition during the transformative journey.
